Bursary/Scholarship Information

Can I get a teacher education bursary? And how much would I get?

Teacher education bursaries are available for PGCE and School Direct (unsalaried) trainee teachers in certain shortage subjects. For more information, check out the latest information on the Get into Teaching website.

How do I get the bursary?

Although you don’t need to apply for the bursary we will ask you to complete a short online form.  This is so we can collect your bank details and check what you are eligible for.

When do I complete the online bursary form?

You’ll be sent a link to the form (hosted on MyHallam) shortly after you become fully enrolled on the course. We can’t send the link before this as we need to keep your details secure.

What do I need to do next?

Check whether you qualify for a bursary by reading this Eligibility Criteria for a Teacher Education bursary . Once you’re enrolled, we’ll send you a link to the online bursary/scholarship form.

What if I’ve been awarded a scholarship?

We administer these payments too, so we’ll need you to complete an online form. Make sure you keep a copy of your scholarship confirmation from the appropriate professional body, as you’ll be asked to upload this when you complete your form.

When will I get my payments?

We aim to make your first payment on the fifth working day of October. If you miss the first payment in October because of additional health or qualification checks, don’t worry, we’ll roll your payment over. Take a look at the PGCE with QTS Payment Information Sheet – this gives you important details of the bursary/scholarship, such as the dates you’ll be paid.

What if I have a question?

Email your questions to transitions@shu.ac.uk

We’re really looking forward to welcoming you to Sheffield Hallam University this August/September, and wish you all the best for your course.
