Are you new to Sheffield Hallam University (SHU)? There are many reasons why Sheffield is a great city and Sheffield has been labelled the ultimate student city. Sheffield has also been identified as the best city for graduates!

TOP 5 SHEFFIELD HALLAM EVENTS:

  1. SHU Fest This event is a celebration of diversity in our University. A whole week of events for anyone to get involved with including salsa dancing, exercise classes, live music, film screenings etc. The whole University gets involved in SHU Fest including our catering outlets who serve up food from all corners of the world for a fantastic price for one week only.
  2. Freebie Fair The freebie fair is by far one of the busiest events the Student’s Union put on. There are lots of stalls giving away free stuff, free vouchers, discount vouchers and much more. It’s a great place to find out what’s on offer in Sheffield and find out about the companies who give student discounts.
  3. Get Active Week Get Active Week is a week-long festival of fun, free activities! It’s a chance to try something new, have fun and take a small step toward a more active lifestyle, whatever your level of fitness. With over 50 activities to choose from, it couldn’t be easier. It’s all completely free and there’s no need to book in advance – just get involved on the day. There are even prizes and rewards on offer, just for taking part.
  4. VARSITY: Sheffield Hallam University vs The University of Sheffield. Varsity is a celebration of the sporting talents across the two Universities. Whether you’re part of a team or enjoy watching sports, this is an event everyone can get involved in!
  5. SOCIETY FAIR There are over 60 societies for you to join in all sorts of areas including course, faith and appreciation. There’s a society for everyone, but should you see a gap in the market you can always set up your own by contacting the Student’s Union. A list of all of our current societies can be found here.

TOP 5 THINGS TO DO IN SHEFFIELD BEFORE YOU LEAVE:

  1. Visit Meadowhall Sheffield is home to the largest indoor shopping centre in Yorkshire and the Humber: Meadowhall. It is only a short trip away from Sheffield city centre and there are regular trains, trams and buses running from the city.
  2. To be or not to be? Sheffield has fantastic venues for theatrical performances in the centre of town. If you’re aged 16-26 you can buy selected theatre tickets for just £5! Sign up to Livefor5 on Sheffield Theatres website & set up an account.
  3. Take a trip to the dogs Owlerton Stadium is just 3 miles from the city centre and is a great trip out. There are always deals on to make sure that you get the most out of your night. Whether you want a flutter or just want to have a change of scenery, this is a must for any true Sheffield resident.
  4. See some live sports! Sheffield has a wide variety of sporting events throughout the city. Sheffield is home to the World Snooker Championship which occurs annually and attracts a lot of media attention.
  5. Sup some real ale Sheffield has some outstanding pubs for real ale… and with real ale comes real good grub. There are plenty dotted around the city, including The Devonshire Cat which is a real old school real ale pub and there are plenty of real ale pubs in the area of Kelham Island. You can even follow a Sheffield Ale Trail which provides walking routes of the best pubs in Sheffield city centre and Kelham Island. The Broadfield Pub is also a great pub in Sheffield and is famous for its award winning pies!
