RSP: Supporting Student Aspirations

Most students embark on a doctorate with a set of motivations and aspirations. Supervisors need to have awareness of these professional and personal goals to support the development of doctoral students. In this session we consider the role that supervisors may have in supporting candidates to prepare for future career decisions. We also focus on supporting candidates with personal challenges, including those relating to wellbeing and mental health. Some key themes of this session relate to:
- How we can be good role models in terms of work-life balance.
- How we can induct students into disciplinary networks and activities.
- How we can inform and support career development (inside and outside of academia).
