Research Ethics Reviewer Training

12 October 2022 @ 14:00 - 14:45

Ethics training session for all SHU reviewers of research ethics applications. Led by a member of the University Research Ethics Committee.

Latest guidance and training suitable for new/potential reviewers and existing reviewers of Research Ethics applications. Includes ethical considerations and use of the Converis system, with a chance for questions and discussion at the end.

Ethics reviewing is a fundamental element of the research process – researchers cannot begin data collecting until their proposals have been appropriately reviewed and approved.  Ethics is a peer review process and the only qualification needed to undertake reviews is to be research-active yourself.  However, if you feel you would like more training in this – if you are inexperienced and want to build confidence, or if you have reviewer experience but would appreciate a refresher, periodic training is provided by members of the University Research Ethics Committee (UREC).

The session is aimed at all research-active members of staff, plus all doctoral researchers (except those in their first year, who aren’t eligible to be reviewers yet) across all research institutes.  It will be led by Dr Ruth Deller.
