Theme: Developing our Research Culture

Call for contributions

Conference Date: 8th June 2023

Submission deadline:  24th April 2023 to be submitted to  Social-economic-pgr@shu.ac.uk

Having a strong research culture is an important component for academic institutions and has rightly been assessed by the Research Excellence Framework. As we continue to build our research it is crucial that we reflect on what we want our own research culture to be and how we will be part of and contribute to the wider Hallam research culture.

This conference focuses on the components of our SBS research culture and how it can enable and support the School’s research strategy and us as researchers.  Alongside speakers from the University and School about the role of research culture, we will be show-casing our PGRs’ and ECRs’ research. Through this we will help to continue our building of an inclusive, supportive and developmental research culture.

PGRs and ECRs from the Social and Economic Research Institute are invited to join this conference, which brings our PGRs and ECRs from three departments: Department of Management, Service Sector Management, Finance, Accounting and Business System Department in the business school together in sharing their research with focusing on our research themes:

  • Responsible Leadership and Socially Just Organisations
  • Resilient Economies and Sustainable Supply Chains
  • Responsible Consumption and Sustainable Lives
  • Digital Transformation

During this one-day event PGRs and ECRs will also have opportunities to do ‘Speed Networking’ to initiate an opportunity to develop a form of mentor and mentee relationships in post conference if they wish to. Prizes will be given to PGR and ECR papers and poster presentations.

Guidelines for Paper and Poster submissions

PGRs and ECRs from Department of Management, Service Sector Management, Finance, Accounting and Business System Department are invited to submit abstracts.

  • Papers extended abstracts: This submission is recommended for all PGRs and ECRs.

Word count length : 1200 words (excluding tables and references).

  • Poster presentation abstracts: This submission is recommended for all PGRs and ECRs.

Word count length: 600 words

A poster should include:

  • Research topic, students and their supervisory names
  • Background of the research
  • Research question(s), aims and objectives of the study
  • Literature review of the key theories
  • Research design
  • The contribution
