PGR wellbeing focus group – ONLINE session for students and supervisors

8 November 2021 @ 09:30 - 11:00

The event is intended to enable a detailed discussion around PGR wellbeing and to hear from the perspective of students and supervisors

We will firstly feedback to the group as a whole (Students and Supervisors) of some of the activities we have implemented to support PGR wellbeing over the last 2 years and sign post to where students and supervisors can go to find support. We then aim to break of into two sections one for PGR students (to be led by student reps) and one for Supervisors (To be co-ordinated by staff members). We have followed feedback from our prior focus groups which raised students would be more open if discussing to other students.

We are interested in exploring several themes to identify the areas which affect wellbeing in doctoral students, and whether the needs are different for different groups of students. These discussions will feed into the activities of the PGR wellbeing group and assess the success of activities to date. We will have a number of breakout rooms/tables based on the most popular selections (not all of these will run). Potential themes are:

  1. Caring responsibilities
  2. Financial problems related to the Doctorate
  3. COVID related
  4. Project related
  5. Supervision
  6. Workplace environment
  7. Juggling PT work and Doctorates
  8. Transition to Doctorates
  9. Work life balance
  10. Life after the Doctorate
  11. Appropriate working relationships
  12. International student matters
  13. Supporting staff members undertaking doctorates
