Induction Series: Planning Your Professional Development
February 27 @ 12:00 - 13:00
We will be running a series of online induction events for new PGR students beginning their studies from February 2024. These events are also open to students who may not have attended them previously during their induction. Please complete the booking form to secure your place at these sessions. If you have any queries, please contact the RIDA team on rida@shu.ac.uk
As a doctoral researcher you will be developing a unique set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that are important both for timely completion of your research degree and your future professional success. Success looks different for all of us, so it is up to you to decide what your priorities are, how you need to develop and how that can be achieved. Taking a planned approach can help make the path smoother and enable you to be a more successful researcher in the long run. This session will take you through the process of Development Needs Analysis against the Researcher Development Framework (RDF) that is required for RF1. There will be the chance for discussion to help you identify what you need to know right now and seek out opportunities for practising, improving and reflecting on these skills. This session is for all Doctoral Students across Sheffield Hallam and is aimed at those in the first three months of doctoral study (six months if part-time) i.e. pre-RF1 stage. It will be led by Dr Elizabeth Scanlon from the Doctoral School Team.
Within the February 2024 Induction Materials folder on the Research Degrees Blackboard site, you will find the documents that you will need to complete your initial Personal Development Plan. The document contains links to download the full Researcher Development Framework (RDF) from the Vitae website. Please review this material before attending and come ready with any questions you wish to ask.
If, after attending the training session, you have any questions about completing your development plan, please contact us on rida@shu.ac.uk and we will assist you.
