HRI Methodology Seminar Series

March 19 @ 14:00 - 15:00

Speaker – Elizabeth Boutros

Title – What’s really going on with getting on? Using a realist approach to understand faith-health partnerships in Sheffield and Melbourne.

Elizabeth is a PhD candidate at Sheffield Hallam University and La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. Hailing from Australia, Elizabeth is spending 12 months in Sheffield as part of her PhD studies.

Elizabeth began her academic journey as an undergraduate studying a double degree in Social Work and Psychology at RMIT University, before progressing to a Master of Divinity at Whitley College. This combined interest in wellbeing and faith led her to work in hospital and school chaplaincy before pursuing her PhD. Elizabeth has also spent much of her life volunteering in faith communities.

Elizabeth is interested in how the settings of our everyday lives, including our communities, can facilitate health and wellbeing. Her PhD research is exploring the way that faith communities and health/wellbeing advocates work together to make communities in Sheffield and Melbourne healthier places.

This seminar will focus on how a realist approach can help us make sense of complex social systems and health interventions, and how a realist review of relevant literature can be used to guide data collection and analysis. Examples of this process will be drawn from Elizabeth’s ongoing PhD research.
