Guidance for SHU Staff Interested in Doing a PhD

10 March 2022 @ 10:00 - 12:00

Are you a member of SHU staff interested in doing a PhD?

If so, you are warmly invited to this session where you can learn more about what a PhD is, the different routes to PhD at SHU, how to apply and the SHU context for staff doing PhDs.  We will discuss traditional monograph, creative practice-based and article-based submission routes to PhD at SHU and (for those who already have a substantial track record of outputs) the PhD by Published Works route.

In the first half of the session we will cover essential information and guidance for applicants and FAQs.  In the second half we will break into smaller groups according to research interests and Becky Shaw (Postgraduate Research Tutor for PhD Art & Design) and Kerry McSeveny (Postgraduate Research Tutor for PhD Media & Communication) will join us.  We will be happy to discuss a draft research idea with you, advise on your personal application (including potential supervisors) and answer questions about the PGR community and experience at SHU.

No preparation is required, but if you do have a draft research proposal please do bring it to the session.

THIS IS A STAFF ONLY EVENT

It will be of value to SHU staff interested in doctoral training at SHU or elsewhere.

It is targeted primarily at those aligned with the Culture & Creativity Research Institute but colleagues from elsewhere in the university are also very welcome to attend, the first half of the session should be relevant regardless of your discipline.

Please sign up using Eventbrite:https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ccri-information-and-advice-for-staff-interested-in-doing-a-phd-tickets-269646709567 .  This booking is password protected, please contact culture-creativity-pgr@shu.ac.uk for the password.  Apologies for this extra step, but this is to ensure that it remains a SHU only event.
