Doctoral School Welcome Session for new PGRs

This University-wide doctoral welcome session will introduce new starters to the life of a SHU doctoral researcher and provide orientation on a number of key elements relating to doctoral study. It is the perfect opportunity to virtually meet with staff involved in supporting your studies and other doctoral researchers from across the University.
We will be running breakout rooms within the session, so that you can have discussions in smaller groups and get to know each other a little better.
The session will be quite informal, but we will be concentrating on the following topics:
Being a doctoral student at SHU – sharing expectations: (This session will include smaller breakout discussion rooms)
- Welcome & introductions
- The Doctoral School
- Life as a doctoral student, the PG research student society and student reps
‘How things work/where to find support’
- Overview of University-wide support
- How the Library Research Support Team can help
- Introduction to professional development
Connecting with the SHU doctoral community (This session will include smaller breakout discussion rooms)
- Mapping your network
Signposting to further induction resources
