There a number of locations for saving your files when using the Windows 10 Managed Desktop. Most of these you will be familiar with, but you now also have your University OneDrive storage available when using the Windows 10 Managed Desktop.
Homespace
All staff and students have access to your Homespace directory just as you did with Windows 7, nothing has changed.
This drive is backed up every night and files can be retrieved if deleted by mistake or become corrupted.
Mapped Network Drives
Staff and students will have access to the same mapped drives that are available in Windows 7, using the same drive letter as before.
USB Storage
Windows 10 will allow you to use your USB storage to access stored files, just as you did with Windows 7.
We would strongly recommend that you encrypt your USB devices for security reasons and you should never keep import files only on this storage because these device can get lost or broken easily.
OneDrive
Every student and member of staff at the University has 1TB of cloud storage on OneDrive. you will see this as a prominent storage space when you start using Windows 10 and the new version of Office.
You can access this from difference devices through a browser by visiting go.shu.ac.uk/Office365. If you’re asked to log in, enter your username* in the format username@hallam.shu.ac.uk and your normal University password. (* Your username is the code you use to log into your University account – eg if you log in using the code xy9422 then input xy9422@hallam.shu.ac.uk)
If you have a lot of files on your hard disk which you wish to copy to your OneDrive storage space before you move to Windows 10, it might take a while to complete. Some people find it useful to leave it to run overnight
