The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect from 25 May 2018. Helen Williamson the University Data Protection Officer and Prof Ann Macaskill the Head of Research Ethics have worked on documentation to explain the application of this regulation to research. Attached is guidance for researchers in relation to the Act and research and guidance on the contents of information sheets for new research participants after the Act comes into force on 25 May. Research participants recruited before 25 May do not have to be given this additional information but any participants recruited from 25 May should be fully informed as per the instructions on the Information sheet. This will also apply to doctoral students and all research undertaken by students on taught courses.
