After you have sent off your applications to UCAS and (if relevant) had an interview for your course, there still remains a number of other steps in your journey to university. It is really important to keep on top of application deadlines and plan ahead for key points in the calendar.

In this section, we break down these steps with links to a series of advice pages and support you can access from both SHU Progress and Sheffield Hallam more widely. Click on the image to take you to the relevant webpage.

As university approaches, you may want to head over to the Transition To University section during the summer before you start.

Accommodation and Commuting

Finding a place to stay during your time at university that meets your needs and budget is essential. Our Accommodation Guide offers tips and advice on what to look out for when applying. In addition to general guidance, there are also links to specific advice based on your circumstances (e.g. if you are a care leaver or estranged student). Please note, this guidance will be updated shortly.

Alternatively, you may stay at home during university. This could be because you need to remain in the local area for social/family support or have childcare responsibilities, for example. To help we have put together an information page on commuting to Sheffield Hallam.

Student Finance and Funding Support

Learn about the difference between tuition fee and maintenance loans, how your household income determines how much you are entitled to as well as information on independent students. In addition to the main student finance guide, there also branching pages for advice based on your specific circumstances  (for example if you a care leaver or estranged student). There are also pages on specific information for refugees and asylum seekers, and Student Finance England grants and NHS support.

SHU Progress Events

SHU Progress runs bespoke preparation events in the spring and summer to inform you about the next steps of the application process, support your transition to university, dispel any myths about higher education and a chance to meet current staff and students. We will update the events page and will invite you to them in due course.

Chat to a Student

This is your chance to have a one-to-one chat with current students to find out about life at Sheffield Hallam. You could ask them about studying particular courses as well as what Sheffield is like as a city. Click on the button to take you to the chat service on the Sheffield Hallam website (please note that you will need to register for it and be over the age of 16).
