How can SHU Progress support you?

SHU Progress helps you in the year of your application to university – we can support with UCAS applications and personal statements, prepare for interviews, arrange accommodation, apply for student finance and prepare to transition to being a student.

As a SHU Progress student you can access the following support:

A Personal Contact –access to a dedicated SHU Progress Advisor who can provide advice and answer your questions throughout the year.

  • The personal contact can also:
    • Make referrals to specialist teams within the university such as Careers and Employability, Funding, Wellbeing and Inclusive Support (dependent on your circumstances)
    • Practical support throughout the year with key stages of the application process such as UCAS, Student Finance, Accommodation, Disabled Student Support and transition etc.
  • Invitations to exclusive events and personal visits to the university to support you through the application process and transition to university and the chance to chat to current students and staff. We will keep you posted about our events. We will update the Exclusive Events page in due course.
  • Support with travel costs for visiting the university for our events or open days.
  • Support with making the best application to SHU including  online workshops and guidance on preparing for interviews. See our interview support page for more details.
  • Exclusive updates on key topics relating to applying or preparing to go to university. You can check these out in the Getting Started, Application Next Steps, and Transition to University sections.
  • By joining SHU Progress, you also may be eligible to receive a contextual offer. This means the university could make you a lower conditional offer or, if you have already completed your qualifications, accept you with lower grades. More information about this can be read on the Contextual Offers webpage.

Further to the support listed above, depending on your circumstances, some of the university’s on-course teams can provide pre-entry support to applicants from certain backgrounds. You can read more about this on our pages on pre-entry support for care leavers, carers and estranged students, and disabled students.
