What they did:

Kainat comes from an ethnic minority family. she has to face quite some constraints in the society as well as certain rules in her family. She has tried very hard to have good results in her academic studies as well as better whole personal development. In her work placement, she has improved significantly in her communication and organizational skills as well as self-confidence and motivated. These were due to her determination to try her utmost to overcome all barriers and obstacles resulting from cultural differences and limitation of exposure. She has now a clear goal for her life and set up a plan for further studies and work after graduation.

What was the impact?

She has set a good example for ethnic minority students in Hong Kong that they could also succeed with self-confidence and diligence.

How it inspired others

That a person should have equal opportunities which could be pursued with determination, courage and hard work.

What they did:

Throughout their undergraduate studies, this student actively engaged in opportunities for personal growth and development, particularly in their role as a student representative for department committee meetings. In this capacity, they represented their cohort and effectively communicated their feedback on the first-year experience. By voicing the concerns and suggestions of their fellow students, this student played a vital role in improving the overall student experience.
As a student representative, they honed their communication skills by effectively conveying the thoughts and perspectives of their peers to the department. They actively listened to their concerns, suggestions, and experiences, ensuring that their voices were heard and understood. This experience deepened their understanding of the diverse perspectives within the student community, allowing them to accurately and empathetically represent their collective interests.
In these committee meetings, they provided constructive feedback to address areas that needed improvement, such as curriculum design, support services, and academic resources. They actively collaborated with faculty members and administrators to implement positive changes that directly benefited the student body.
Through their role as a student representative, they not only contributed to the improvement of the two years experience but also fostered a sense of community and inclusivity within the department. By actively engaging with their fellow students, they created a platform for open dialogue, ensuring that their voices were valued and respected.

What was the impact?

This student’s representation in department committee meetings had a big influence. Future students will so gain from improved resources and a better learning environment. How it inspired others

Others were inspired by the student’s representational position in department committee meetings. Their enthusiastic participation and support of student voices showed how one student can have a significant impact. Through skillfully expressing worries and recommendations, the student demonstrated the value of productive discussion and teamwork. Other students were motivated to actively participate in forming their educational experiences by their ability to effectively navigate debates and strive towards shared objectives. Future student representatives are inspired to take on similar roles and carry on the work of fighting for student interests by the student’s devotion and commitment to enhancing the student experience. The student generated a sense of empowerment with their acts. more importantly, this student helps my fellow student voices can be heard among the administrative level of the the school and make it a better place.
