(Supervisors and PGR admin staff)Project to support viva preparation | survey closes 31 August

Staff and PGR students who have already had their viva are invited to take part in a survey looking at resources available for PGR students when undergoing their final viva examination.  This is part of a Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) funded Collaborative project https://gradschool.southwales.ac.uk/current-postgraduate-research-students/preparing-viva-materials/The aim is to learn more about experiences of supporting candidates,  e.g. as a supervisor, examiner, independent chair, or as a member of professional services staff.  This knowledge is very important, as it can help understand the current provision available and help improve the experience for future PGR researchers.

The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete, and there are prizes to be won!  You will be asked to share your experiences and information about the support and materials available at Hallam to help candidates prepare.  This survey will remain open until Tuesday 31 August 2021.

Please click here for further information and to take part: https://southwales.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/preparing-for-your-viva-examination

This message is directed towards supervisors and PGR admin staff – those students who are eligible to participate have been emailed directly.

(Staff only) Writing for The Conversation | Wed 15 Sep 2021, 14:00 – 16:00

The Conversation is an independent source of news and views, written by the academic and research community. Editors work with university experts to unlock knowledge for use by the media and wider public – through comment on topical news stories or publication of new research. A virtual session is being held on Wednesday 15 September (2 – 4pm) and is open to Hallam academic and research staff. The session, led by one of The Conversation’s editors, will cover what they are looking for and how you can pitch and write articles for them. Sign up to book your place – places are limited and available on a first-come-first-served basis. A further session will be held in early November for those unable to attend this session.
