1. October University-wide Induction for doctoral researchers
The next University-wide Induction for doctoral researchers will take place on Thursday 8 October. The session will introduce new starters to the life of a SHU doctoral researcher and provide orientation on a number of key elements relating to doctoral study. It is the perfect opportunity to virtually meet with staff involved in supporting your studies and to get to know doctoral researchers from across the University. If you are a new doctoral starter you should have received your invitation to the event from doctoralschool@shu.ac.uk. 2. Drop in PGR Virtual Café
We run a Friday morning Drop-in PGR Virtual Café – so please join us each Friday via https://eu.bbcollab.com/guest/89bfd7f66eec43798d8286d9ef0830c3
The virtual café offers an opportunity to network with other members of the SHU PGR community in an informal online setting. You can drop in for a short time or stay for the whole session between 10.00 and 11.00 am on Friday mornings to say “hi”, share ideas and experiences or just have a chat with other PGR students. It’s a very relaxed space so don’t be afraid to join in, everyone is very welcome. We are looking to theme future café sessions. If you have any ideas about topics you’d like to discuss or if you would like to host one of the café sessions, please let us know.

3. Doctoral Skills Webinars from the Library Research Support Team and Skills Centre
The Library Research Support Team and the Skills Centre have published their list of upcoming Doctoral Skills Webinar events starting on 7 October. Topics covered will be:

4. Opportunity to speak at the next PubhD public engagement event
Your doctorate requires you to present your research orally as well as in written format. PubhD offers an opportunity for you to present your work to an audience outside of your supervisory team and allows you to gain public engagement experience. 5. Teaching Opportunities via the Brilliant Club Scholars Programme
If you are a PhD or postdoctoral researcher looking for teaching opportunities you may be interested in applying to work as a Scholars Programme tutor. Applications are open up until the end of October to work with the Brilliant Club in 2020/21 as part of their ongoing initiative to provide widening participation support to high achieving secondary school students based in areas of economic and social deprivation. 6. Research Methods and Research Integrity online courses, Second Edition
New versions of the Epigeum Research Methods and Research Integrity online courses are now available via https://courses.epigeum/ you can access them for free using your shu.ac.uk email address and registering with the token 1b54d4f6.
