C3RI VR Research is helping burns patients cope with pain
C3RI research into the application of VR games to help burns patients cope with pain has been trialled with patients in Sheffield. Ivan Phelan and his team have designed a game which will test whether the use of virtual reality headsets can help patients cope with painful medical procedures.
Patients were given a VR game to play while they had their dressings changed. They reported that the pain was substantially reduced when they were immersed in the VR world.
In this video, patient Megan Moxon talks about her treatment for burn injuries and her experience of using the VR game.
