Our ‘Researcher-led activities fund’ allows researchers to be involved in designing and developing multi-disciplinary activities to support SHU’s doctoral community.
Earlier this year, we put out two calls for doctoral researchers to apply for funding. We were looking for activities designed to enhance the professional/research skills of a group of doctoral researchers from different disciplines. Priority was given to those which the panel felt would have the greatest impact in terms of:
- enhancing doctoral skills in line with the Researcher Development Framework
- enhancing interdisciplinary interactions and/ or the doctoral research community
- addressing identified needs
- complementing existing faculty and doctoral school provision, offering additional activities that would not otherwise take place
The following activities were supported, either wholly or in part, from the fund:
- Visibility Conference, 31 March 2017 (ACES – C3RI) https://visibilityconference.carbonmade.com
- Biomechanics Journal Club (HWB – Sport)
- HWB Spring Doctoral Symposium, 22 March 2017 (HWB)
- PG Women in Academia International Women’s Day Event, 8 March 2017 https://www.pgwomeninacademia.co.uk/
- Developing community connections through asset mapping: A training and developmental model (D&S – DLC)
- Doctoral student poster event, April 2017 (D&S – DLC/SIPS)
- Postgraduate Conference, “Breakup”, June 2017 (D&S – Humanities)
