  1. Hallam Guild PGR Wellbeing Group – Events for PGR Students and Supervisors

You can still book to attend the Hallam Guild PGR wellbeing group events on 7 & 9 September. These are intended to enable a more detailed discussion around PGR wellbeing where you can share your perspectives. We are interested in exploring several themes to identify the areas which affect wellbeing in doctoral students. These discussions will aid in the development of the institutional plan for Doctoral wellbeing and highlight areas in which support mechanisms could be developed.

  1. Vitae 3MT® Final – live streamed on Wednesday 16 September 12:00 – 13:00

A reminder that you can register to view the live stream of the Vitae UK final of the 3 Minute Thesis competition and vote for your favourite in the People’s Choice Award. We plan to run the competition at SHU again next year so this is a good way to pick up some tips and think about how you could talk about your research in an engaging and accessible way.

  1. North East Postgraduate Conference (NEPG) for biosciences – 13 November

The North East Postgraduate Conference (NEPG) is the largest student-led annual conference in the United Kingdom, with free registration. Postgraduate students from the bioscience, medical and health fields are invited to present their research in both oral and poster presentations. In addition, the conference offers a variety of workshops and talks from keynote speakers.

The theme for this year’s conference is Diversity, and we aim to celebrate collaboration within the biosciences whilst giving students the opportunity to network with other research students. The conference is a one-day event which will take place online on Friday 13 November 2020.

Early bird registration closes 21 September, Abstract submission deadline is 7 September.

  1. Drop-in PGR Virtual Café – Fridays 09:00 – 10:00

The Doctoral School drop-in PGR Virtual Café is running every Friday morning.  The aim is to offer more virtual spaces for informal catch ups with community peers.  You can drop in for a short time or stay for the whole session between 9.00 and 10.00 am on Friday mornings to say “hi”, share ideas and experiences or just have a chat with other PGR students.  It’s a very relaxed space so don’t be afraid to join in, everyone is very welcome.
