This event has been postponed. We hope to rearrange later in the year.
Kate Taylor, University of Leeds
Kate Taylor is a Teaching Fellow aligned to the Language Centre and the Doctoral College at the University of Leeds. She has over twenty years’ experience of teaching international students. She is now mainly engaged in supporting postgraduate students from a wide range of disciplines on both pre-sessional and in-sessional courses for English and academic study skills. She is particularly interested in issues around transition between different levels of study and in facilitating the development of writing skills.
What is the session about, what will be covered?
Communication is a key part of our supervisory relationships but how often do we consciously think about the importance of the language we use in our research supervisions with our research students?
In this session, Kate will draw on her experience and skills in language education and researcher development to stimulate discussion on the language of supervision. We will consider the influence of both spoken and written language on the research supervision experience from the perspective of the student, sharing ideas to inform our practices as research supervisors of research students from a broad range of backgrounds.
What do I need to do before attending?
No pre-tasks or pre-requisite sessions
Who is the session for ?
Open to all SHU PGR supervisors (not open to students)
