SHU Postgraduate Student Conference 2018
31 May 2018 @ 09:15 - 17:30
Registration for the second annual postgraduate conference at Sheffield Hallam University is now open!
Hosted by the Postgraduate Research Students’ Society, this one-day interdisciplinary event will take place on Thursday 31 May 2018 at Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union.
The theme is ‘Empowered: Agency, Authority, and its Limitations’, and we have a diverse line up of inter-disciplinary panels that interpret this theme in various ways. Postgraduate researchers from a number of different institutions and disciplines will be exploring a range of topics, including power relationships and conflict abroad, power and authorship, working class agency in Britain, autonomy in healthcare, and constructing personal and collective identities.
We are also delighted to host two keynote speakers at the conference. Our internal keynote speaker is Dr. Hattie Earle from SHU English department, who will be opening the conference with a presentation investigating voices of oppressed groups in comic books. Our external keynote speaker, Dr. John Narayan from Birmigham City University, will close the day for us with his presentation on the global politics of the British Black Power Movement from the 1960’s to the present day.
