SERI – Framing the Contribution of your Research

How is your research contributing to knowledge?  We are regularly asked this question – in our RF1, RF2, thesis, viva and when writing academic papers – yet this can be hard to put into words and many of us answer by explaining the gap we think our research is filling.

Gap filling is a form of knowledge contribution, however, there are other strategies, some of which you may already be using but may not think they would support your contribution claim.

In this workshop, I will explain a range of strategies that you can adopt when explaining your academic contribution and provide you with examples of text that others have used to articulate the different contribution strategies, which you may want to adopt in your own work.  There will also be an opportunity for you to reflect on the strategy you are already adopting and identify other strategies that you could use to explain your academic contributions.
