Producing a doctoral thesis is likely to be the longest and most difficult piece of work that a student has ever undertaken, and supervisors have a key role in supporting students to complete their final submissions for examination.  Supervisors need to be able to support students to have a clear understanding of the criteria for the award of the doctorate.  Candidates may be unfamiliar with oral examinations and one role of supervisors can be to help prepare them for their viva.  Supervisors may also have a key role to play after the doctoral examination in terms of supporting students to revise their work.  In this session we will draw on student and doctoral programmes management perspectives to help you to identify effective practices and behaviours for preparing students for their doctoral examination.

The session aligns with the UKCGE Good Practice Framework
