Research Institutes 2nd Dialogue Event – Human Rights
10 December 2020 @ 15:30 - 17:00
To book please use the Eventbrite link here.
The four Research Institutes would like to invite you to join them for the next in their series of RI Dialogues[1] for 2020-2021.
The second dialogue session in the series will focus on the subject of Human Rights to coincide with the Anniversary of the UN declaration of Human Rights.
The aim is to bring researchers together from different disciplines and perspectives to look at the unsolved issues around a themed area. They anticipate a number of outcomes from these events:
- The opportunity for researchers and academics to make connections with individuals working in a similar field from an area outside their immediate department, College or Research Centre.
- The possibility of building future research proposals around the areas of need identified through the discussions, potentially through Sandpits or other activities
The 90 minute sessions will include a 30-45 minute discussion from a panel facilitated by a chair (for this event, Professor David Cotterrell, Director of the Culture & Creativity Research Institute). This will be followed by an open discussion where all attendees can join the debate.
Panel members will discuss from their research, not what they have achieved in the area, but what they have yet been unable to solve. The purpose of the discussion is to facilitate new insight and to bring together different perspectives, providing the opportunity to identify points of contention and common enquiries. It is hoped that the events will support the building of new networks, and advancing research agendas in these areas.
Panel members will be a combination of experienced researchers, early career researchers and where appropriate representatives of external bodies.
The Institutes would like to invite anyone with experience of researching within the field of Human Rights to submit an expression of interest to join this RI Dialogue session via the Eventbrite form. The event will take place on Thursday 10 December 2020 from 1530-1700.
Involvement in the panel or the wider discussion is open to researchers at any stage of their research career. In order to ensure a balance of perspectives and experience they ask that you complete the Eventbrite form with your details by Monday, 30 November. The Eventbrite registration form asks for a few lines about your own research interests in this field. Completing this will greatly assist the Chair in steering the discussion to areas of shared interest and inviting you to participate in the conversation as relevant topics are explored.
Principles of the Dialogues
- Is it possible for us to look at a common concern from a very different perspective? The Dialogues are convened purposefully to bring together people across hierarchies and sectors – persons who would have shared concerns but possibly exclusive circles and contexts – to share knowledge and concerns with each other.
- The focus of the conversations will be centred around what has not been resolved, rather than what has been achieved. Rather than talk about past achievements and proven knowledge, those around the table will be encouraged to address questions, doubt and failure.
