Research Institute Dialogue Event – Topic: Sustainability Challenges for Moving to A Low Carbon Economy and Society
24 February 2021 @ 15:30 - 17:00
Building on the success of the CK online conference in 2020, the four Research Institutes would like to invite you to join them for the third event in a series of online dialogues [*] for 2020-2021.
Each dialogue session has a different inter-disciplinary focus. This event will focus on the sustainability challenges for moving to a low carbon economy and society.
The aim is of the dialogue sessions is to bring researchers together from different disciplines and perspectives to look at the unsolved issues around a themed area. They anticipate a number of outcomes from these events:
· The opportunity for researchers and academics to make connections with individuals working in a similar field from an area outside their immediate department, College or Research Centre.
- The possibility of building future research proposals around the areas of need identified through the discussions.
The 90 minute session will include a 30-45 minute discussion from a panel facilitated by a chair (one of the Research Institute Directors). This will be followed by an open discussion where audience members can join the debate.
Panel members will discuss from their research, not what they have achieved in the area, but what they have yet been unable to solve. The purpose of the discussion is to facilitate new insight and to bring together different perspectives, providing the opportunity to build new networks and to move forward the research agendas in these areas.
Panel members will be a combination of experienced researchers, early career researchers and where appropriate representatives of external bodies.
Anyone with experience of researching on sustainability and/or low carbon energy is invited to submit an expression of interest to join the panel for this Dialogue event which will take place on Wednesday 24 February from 1530 – 1700. Expressions of interest are open to researchers at any stage of the research career; in order to ensure a balance of perspectives and experience, please complete this short form Expression of Interest Form-RI Dialogue Event February 2021 and return it to ! RIS Social & Economic RI Enquiries, by 29 January 2021.
Principles of the Dialogues
- Is it possible for us to look at a common concern from a very different perspective? The Dialogues are convened purposefully to bring together people across hierarchies and sectors – persons who would have shared concerns but possibly exclusive circles and contexts – to share knowledge and concerns with each other.
- The focus of the conversations will be centred around what has not been resolved, rather than what has been achieved. Rather than talk about past achievements and proven knowledge, those around the table will be encouraged to address questions, doubt and failure.
