DTA Elective – Photovoltaic Technology and Applications to the Society – EVENT CANCELLED

5 March 2019 @ 10:30 - 15:00

Apologies – this event has now been cancelled.

This one day course starts with speaker’s 25 years of public engagement work on renewable energy sources.  These activities led to the designing, piloting, monitoring and replication of “Solar Village” project.  First half of the course will be on these activities aimed for use of clean energy technologies for sustainable development and reduction of poverty.  The second part focusses on technical matters on photovoltaics, based on trainer’s four decades of active research and publications [1,2].  Concepts are explained in simple language using easy to understand animations, so that anyone can follow scientific principles involved.

Participants will gain an underlying basic knowledge on direct solar energy conversion, and their possible applications.  They will also familiarise the huge impact of real projects such as solar villages mainly in developing countries.  Active involvement of participants may help in accelerating this project take-up in other developing countries.

This course has been organised as part of the Doctoral Training Alliance (DTA) in energy.  This is open to DTA students, supervisors as well as all Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) researchers.
