Energy and Society: understanding the societal impacts and implications of contemporary energy policy – Monday 4 March 2019

This one day course is designed to appeal across disciplines to anyone with an interest in contemporary energy issues. The course is structured to help students from all disciplinary backgrounds to think critically about energy policies. The module will encourage students to consider the societal impacts and implications for fairness, social justice and social inclusion of contemporary energy policies. There will be sessions on energy and social justice; fuel poverty and energy vulnerability and on methods for researching the societal impacts of energy policy. There will be interactive sessions and also at least one guest speaker from practice who will talk about their experiences of working to mitigate energy related inequalities.

This is open to DTA students, supervisors as well as all Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) researchers..

The course will run as a short day course, exact times TBC.  Lunch will be provided – so please advise us of any dietary requirements when booking.

Learning outcomes

Those who attend the course will gain an appreciation of the ‘real world’ impacts of energy research and will be able to relate their own research to current policy priorities at the local, national and global levels, and as such, will be better positioned to defend the significance and societal value of their work. They will also be better positioned to take a critical view of contemporary energy policy and practice.
