Consolidating the population (expansion), planet (sustainability) and people (feeding an expanding population: globally) – food industry solutions.

Food production, consumption and health have never been more relevant as the cost of living rises and issues of food sustainability come to the fore. This thought-provoking presentation by Barbara Bray MBE relates not just to the essential need to produce food for all, but also to our own personal nutrition needs and wellbeing.

We would like to encourage external partners, members of the public, our students, and staff to join us for this presentation and networking event at Sheffield Hallam University.

About the Speaker

Barbara Bray MBE

Role: Honorary Officer for International Affairs

Organisation: Independent Registered Nutritionist and Food Safety consultant

Term in Office ends: 2023

Barbara Bray has 20 years’ experience working in the agri-food sector in the UK and Europe, Middle East and African countries. Her career has covered fresh produce procurement and the provision of food safety advice and nutritional compliance information as Technical Manager with Bakkavor, an international food manufacturer. She regularly chairs meetings on nutrition and speaks at events on the subject of food production and nutrition.

In 2017, Barbara was awarded a Nuffield Farming Scholarship and her project on ‘Vegetable Production For Specific Nutritional Need’ reviewed biofortification initiatives and food policies in countries including China, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. Her findings have inspired her to create solutions to encourage different parts of the food chain to collaborate and communicate more effectively with each other.

Barbara was awarded an MBE in the 2019 Birthday Honours list for ‘Services to Food Nutrition’.
