Athena Swan Lecture – Girls wear pink and boys wear blue: exploring the relationship between society stereotypes and the gender gap in science
7 July 2020 @ 10:00 - 11:00
“Girls wear pink and boys wear blue: exploring the relationship between society stereotypes and the gender gap in science”
An Athena SWAN lecture by Dr Márjory da Costa-Abreu (Sheffield Hallam University, Senior Lecturer in Computer Science for Games & AI)
Have you ever heard that there is not such a thing as gender gap? Do you believe that girls are more likely to seek ‘caring careers’ and boys are more likely to seek ‘engineering careers’ because of a ‘natural disposition’? Do you think that girls like pink and boys like blue because of genetics?
Well… Come to this talk and explore the gender gap, unconscious bias behaviour, women’s reality in life and in the work environment, and the reasons there are so few women in science.
This will take place on Tuesday 7 July at 10am and last an hour. The session will be delivered on Zoom.
