In October, doctoral researchers Aimee Paskins, Jodi Brookes, Karl Norris and Joseph Snuggs took part in the Biotechnology Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (Biotechnology YES), an innovative competition developed to raise awareness of the commercialisation of bioscience ideas among early career researchers.
Biotechnology YES is organised jointly by The University of Nottingham’s Haydn Green Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (HGI), the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Medical Research Council (MRC).
Following presentations from leading figures in industry on all aspects of knowledge exchange and the commercialisation of ideas, the team had to to prepare an oral business plan presentation for a hypothetical bioscience start-up company seeking equity investment. Each team member assumes a different Director-level role in the company, such as Managing Director, Finance, R&D, Marketing or Operations.
