 Abstract deadline extended

The inaugural University Creating Knowledge Conference will take place on Monday 18 June at Pennine Lecture Theatre, City Campus.

The Conference has already received an impressive number of registrations and abstracts.  However, in the tradition of most research conferences, we have decided to extend the deadline for abstracts until the end of this week (Friday 25 May).   Please use this link to submit your abstracts, which should be no longer than 250 words.

Please register your attendance at the conference here by Friday 1 June. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The programme has been revised, as you will see attached, to include an Early Career Researcher session, the Doctoral Student 3 Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition and the Doctoral School Doctoral Student of the Year Competition.   The presentations for the latter will be included in the relevant sessions.

Six of the programme sessions are based on the three Research and Impact Platforms:

Healthy, Independent Lives   |   Thriving, Inclusive Communities   |   Future Economies

In addition to the launch of the three platforms, a significant aspect of the feedback from colleagues during the consultation discussions was the recognition that much of the research strength at SHU is built upon our expertise in applying creativity, culture and professional practice across a range of disciplines and applications.   The conference includes dedicated sessions in these areas.  However, to ensure that our research strengths in these areas have the appropriate profile both internally and externally and contribute strongly to the research and impact platforms, we will also establish two foundations entitled

Creativity and Culture   |   Professional Practice

The platforms and foundations are a critical component of our Creating Knowledge Implementation Plan.  The conference will be the forum at which to explore opportunities for internal and external collaboration offered by the platforms and how they can be realised.   The sessions will help us define a series of 3 key challenges/questions to be addressed by each platform through the next year.
