Professor Virginia Heath’s Masterclass on Documentary Film Making at Fastnet film Festival, 26th May 2022

Professor Virginia Heath has been invited to present a Masterclass on Documentary Film Making at the Fastnet Film Festival in Ireland on 26th May 2022.  The masterclass will focus on the making of Prof Heath’s BAFTA nominated film, From Scotland With Love.

She joins key Industry Professionals invited to the film festival including, Film Producer, David Puttnam and Irish Actors Stephen Rea and Ciarán Hinds.

‘From Scotland With Love’ is an award-winning feature documentary which was also an Impact Case Study for REF 2021. Made entirely of Scottish film archive, From Scotland With Love is a 75-minute film by award-winning Director and Sheffield Hallam University Professor of Film Virginia Heath with a transcendent score by Scottish musician and composer King Creosote.

A journey into our collective past, the film explores universal themes of love, loss, resistance, migration, work and play. Ordinary people, some long since dead, their names and identities largely forgotten, appear shimmering from the depth of the vaults to take a starring role. Brilliantly edited together, these silent individuals become composite characters, who emerge to tell us their stories, given voice by King Creosote’s poetic music and lyrics.

Virginia Heath is Professor of Film in the Art and Design Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University. She is a multi-award winning writer/director with New Zealand and UK nationality. She directs documentary and drama films including the acclaimed, BAFTA nominated, From Scotland With Love and Berlinale award winning Relativity.
