Giant Hand Eats Building from the Inside
‘Giant Hand Eats Building from the Inside’ and ‘Loop Until Escape’ launched at Sarah Wigglesworth Architecture (SWA) September 19th 2022
Becky Shaw’s work developed from a recent artist residency at a firm of architects is now on show.
Following a residency at Sarah Wigglesworth Architecture in 2019-20, Becky was invited to show the body of work in the context of Stock Orchard House (SWA’s live work base) as part of their contribution to London Architecture week. This context meant that the artists publication ‘Giant Hand Eats Building from the Inside’ could finally be printed and distributed.
To make the work, Becky worked with artist-writer Emma Bolland, who developed newspaper headlines in response to Becky’s visceral, funny, messy images.
In addition, the video ‘Loop until Escape’ was shown. This video examines the pressure and space of the SWA working environment (and its aggregate of objects, screens and people) so it was brilliant to present it back in this space.
