Design Futures has been shortlisted once again for UK Packaging Awards. This year, they are shortlisted for the ‘Design Team of the Year’ Performance Award. They have also been nominated for their innovative packaging design for local chocolate company Trupig Vegan in the ‘Corrugated: Online Retail and Consumer Goods’ Quality Award category.

Speaking about the design for Trupig, Design Futures Packaging Director John Kirkby said

The Trupig Vegan pack is an excellent example of how pack structure and pack graphics can work together to create a truly innovative design. The pack is made from sustainable corrugated paperboard and is fully recyclable / compostable if discarded by the end user. The hope, however, is that the pack will be kept by the end user due to its attractive design and they will reused it for something else.

Lily Gaskell, owner of Trupig Vegan, said:

“Since introducing these boxes our connection with our customers has grown. It tells our story perfectly.

It’s also raised our profile amongst a new audience who have seen the boxes on social media and gone on to become regular customers. Our online sales are up 14% from this period last year, with the total order value increasing 24%, demonstrating customers order more items in order to receive them in the pig box.

Lastly, we have not seen the usual post-Easter dip in sales. Since we began using the pig box 54% of traffic online is new vs returning, 18% higher than the previous period.”

Design Futures has been working with Trupig Vegan for several years as a result of the Sheffield Innovation Programme (SIP), a regional regional initiative to stimulate business growth and develop relationships with SMEs. John said:

We first met Lily Gaskell in October 2019 when she signed up for an ERDF funded SIP2 project. We have worked with her on many projects since then including a full brand redesign and providing various pack structures.
