‘Queer as Folklore: A year of English customs’ – Andrew Robinson featured in BBC article documenting calendar customs across England
Work by Andrew Robinson, Senior Lecturer in Photography at Sheffield Hallam, is currently included in a popular BBC On-line article about seasonal customs entitled Queer as Folklore: A year of English customs. The article has been receiving worldwide attention with upwards of 90,000 views.
The images are from an unpublished body of work Andrew undertook in the late 1990s documenting calendar customs across England called Another England. Andrew is currently re-visiting and extending the project as part of his involvement in the newly founded Centre for Contemporary Legend at Sheffield Hallam University with David Clarke and Diane Rogers.
The Centre for Contemporary Legend aims to create an institutional base that can act as a focal point for those working in the field of folklore and legend studies, continuing Sheffield’s international reputation for the academic study of contemporary legends. The CCL held its inaugural symposium in November 2018.
