Each new release to Windows 10 is known as a Sprint which will introduce new features and software to your computer.  We will list the main ones here.

You can check which Sprint you are on by checking the number on the bus that appears on the log in and lock screens.  You can also see in the software centre to see what updates are waiting for you to apply (or have just been applied).

21 May 2020

  • Google Chrome 81.0.4044.122

This software is the latest version of Google Chrome. This update resolves known issues and provides additional functionality.

This software is a required update so will automatically start the installation process but it will only complete the installation when you are not logged in, so the procedure is to allow the software to install and then logout, leaving your workstation at the login screen for a short while. We would recommend that you then reboot your device.

This update is available from Software Center as a required install. To do this connect to the SHU VPN and open Software Center. If the application isn’t available then actions can be performed to update Software Center to see the latest available applications.

  • Cisco Jabber 12.8.1

This software is available as a user install via Software Center as an optional install.

This software is the latest version of the Cisco Jabber Client. This update resolves known issues and provides additional functionality.

  • Horizon Client 5.4.2

This software is available as a user install via Software Center as an optional install.

This software is the latest version of the VMware Horizon Client that allows you to connect to VMware Horizon. This update resolves known issues and provides additional functionality.

This software will only complete the installation when you are not logged in, so the procedure is to install the software from Software Center and then logout, leaving your workstation at the login screen for a short while. We would recommend that you then reboot your device to complete the install.

  • WebEx Productivity Tools 40.2.18.5

This software allows you to join WebEx meetings from the new WebEx service and organise WebEx Online meetings via Outlook.
In order to install correctly Outlook must be closed before the installation begins. If this is not done an error will be be shown. To resolve close Outlook and re-run the software install.

This update is available from Software Center as a user install. To do this connect to the SHU VPN and open Software Center. If the application isn’t available then actions can be performed to update Software Center to see the latest available applications.

  • PaloAlto GlobalProtect VPN 5.1.1

This software is the client for the new VPN Service that is an alternative to the Cisco VPN.

This update is available from Software Center as a user install. To do this connect to the Cisco VPN and open Software Center. If the application isn’t available then actions can be performed to update Software Center to see the latest available applications.
