REF2021
The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the UK’s system for assessing the quality of research in higher education.
For REF2021, overall, 72 percent of the research submitted by Sheffield Hallam received the prestigious rating as ‘world-leading’ (4*) and ‘internationally excellent’ (3*).

Key highlights from the University’s REF results include being rated in the Top 10 in the UK for research impact in Planning, Sport and Art & Design.
The Culture & Creativity Research Institute submitted to four Units of Assessment (UoAs) in the REF:
- UoA27: English Language and Literature
- UoA28: History
- UoA32: Art and Design: History, Practice and Theory
- UoA34: Communication, Cultural and Media Studies, Library and Information Management
