REF2014

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the mechanism by which the quality of research in UK Higher Educations is assessed.

The Research Institute submitted to two Units of Assessment (UoAs) in REF2014:

• UoA34: Art & Design (History, Practice & Theory)
• UoA36: Communication, Cultural and Media Studies, Library and Information Management

Both research centres performed extremely well in REF2014.

An impressive 81% of all research in Art, Design and Media Arts was recognised as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ in terms of quality, environment and impact, with 100% of the research impact achieving the highest 3* and 4* ratings.

65% of all research submitted by the Communication & Computing Research Centre was ranked as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ in terms of quality, environment and impact, with 90% of the research impact scoring 3* or 4*.
