meSch selected for exhibition at the ‘Fair of European Innovators in Cultural Heritage’ this November

meSch: Material EncounterS with digital Cultural Heritage was a 4-year EU funded project with the goal of co-designing novel platforms for the creation of tangible exhibits at heritage sites: curators will be able to offer visitors new interactive experiences by means of material interaction with smart objects. meSch has been selected to exhibit in the forthcoming event Fair of European Innovators in Cultural Heritage taking place 15 and 16 November in Brussels. A wealth of digital cultural heritage content is currently available in on-line repositories and archives, it is however accessed only in a limited way and utilised through rather static modes of delivery. meSch bridges the gap between visitors’ cultural heritage experience on-site and on-line by providing a platform for the creation of tangible smart exhibits, that enables heritage professionals to compose and realise physical artefacts enriched by digital content without the need for specialised technical knowledge: the platform includes an authoring environment for the composition of physical/digital narratives to be mapped to interactive artefacts, and an embedded multi-sensor digital system platform for the construction of ad-hoc physical adaptive smart objects.

The Fair of European Innovators in Cultural Heritage is a key event of the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH), with more than 300 participants and stakeholders expected from Europe and beyond.

The event aims to support a Cultural Heritage innovation ecosystem through the establishment of a Community of Innovators in Cultural Heritage, investing in people who will make the change, in line with the Lamy report. The Fair will build on the results of the RTD-EAC-CNECT conference in March, wrap-up the contribution of EU R&I to the EYCH and suggest next steps in the field as part of the forthcoming EU Action Plan on Cultural Heritage 2019.
