Gravity: Nostalgia presents the work of Filmmaker Azza El-Hassan chaired by Rose Butler

Azza El-Hassan is a Palestinian Filmmaker whose work centres around image formation within the Palestinian Israeli conflict and the role of the oppressor, oppressed and international media in forming this image. She is also concerned with the effect of political struggles and political representation on the personal private lives of people who exist in a conflict zone. Following the path of Palestinian visual images from the thirties till today, filmmaker Azza El-Hassan, looks at the effect of the theft and destruction of Palestinian visual archive, by the State of Israel on Palestinian visual narrative.

She is the winner of several international film awards, such as The ALEPH Award, LUCHINO VISCONTI Award, and BBC GRIERSON Award (best Newcomer). Her work has been selected and screened at various international film festivals around the world including IDFA in Holland, Yamagata in Japan, and Berlinale in Germany.

She collaborates with several international TV networks, such as, ZDF, WDR, BBC, ARTE and Al Jazeera International, for whom she has produced and/or directed various documentaries. She has been a jury member at different festivals and art venues and is a board member of London Palestine film festival.
