a ROLE to PLAY
Professor Esther Johnson’s new artist film a ROLE to PLAY will premiere this Thursday 28th November 18:30 at QUAD in Derby.
The screening is free and you can book HERE.
Working with adult literacy group members, food bank users and volunteers connected to Freedom Community Project, a ROLE to PLAY shares experiences of contemporary
working life in post-industrial Bolsover, a Derbyshire constituency where coal was once king. The project experiments with methods of co-creation, radical theatre, oral testimony and documentary. Esther is also working on an accompanying publication and exhibition with literacy group members to be launched next year.
a ROLE to PLAY has been supported by animate projects WORK commission devised to explore ideas and realities of what ‘work’ means for the way we live today. WORK has supported four contemporary moving image artists to develop, produce and exhibit films in collaborative contexts. Each artist worked with a different arts partner – Johnson working with junction arts.
Esther Johnson is Professor of Film & Media Arts at Sheffield Hallam University. Find out more about Esther’s work here.
