Design Futures shortlisted in three categories at the 2019 UK Packaging Awards

The Design Futures packaging team has been shortlisted in three categories at this years prestigious UK Packaging awards. Winners will be announced at the awards evening on Thursday 7th November, 2019, at the Grosvenor House, London.

Their shortlisting for the ‘Best New Concept Award’ is for their development of an environmentally responsible cool box that uses sheep wool and corrugated paper board to create a sustainable alternative to plastic based insulative packaging. The shortlisting for ‘Flexible Plastic Pack of the Year’ is for the teams work with local Sheffield based SME Pura Panela and the creation of a flexible pouch made from sugarcane fibre which creates a closed loop production process. The final nomination is for ‘Design Team of the Year’. The team have won this award on two previous occasions and this years entry includes work for a number of Art & Design Research Centre research projects, including Lab4living‘s Journeying Through Dementia work, and a particularly varied output of design work for national and local companies.

Packaging design studio creative director John Kirkby will attend the awards ceremony in London on the 7th of November.  John says:

“As expected in the UK’s major packaging awards we are shortlisted amongst the biggest names in the industry which is testament to the efforts and skill of our small team and the wider university community.”
