Speaker: Peter Spence (Senior Lecturer in Film and Media Production)

Title: The film-maker as “participant-witness and an active fabricator of meaning” – developing an archive based feature documentary film.

In this seminar Peter will discuss practical, creative and conceptual considerations in developing his short film The Archive into a feature length documentary.

Screened at this year’s Sheffield Doc/Fest and Cannes Short Film Corner The Archive tells the incredible story of lawyer David Drucker who was pursued for decades by J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI. Always travelling with a Bolex 16mm camera, David captured stunning footage on his travels around the world. However, FBI agents were never far behind also documenting his every move.
