EXTENDED CALL for Abstracts for the 22nd International University Forum for Human Resource Development (UFHRD) Conference:

‘Mind the Gap – Bridging Theory and Practice in the Post Covid Era’

Hosted online by Sheffield Business School, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, UK.

8-10th June 2022

Deadline for extended CfP:  February 14th 2022 (23.59 GMT)

The conference will host presentations of the latest research findings, current practices and theoretical development in Human Resource Development (HRD). We would like to invite academics, practitioners and students working in any of the HRD-related streams listed below to contribute to the conference by presenting papers, participating in sessions and discussions. All accepted papers will be allocated a 30 minute slot in the Conference programme, allowing for 20 minutes to present and 10 minutes for questions.

  • Global, comparative and cross -cultural dimensions of HRD
  • Employee engagement
  • Diversity and equality issues in HRD

  • Strategic capabilities and the changing nature of work
  • Learning in small and medium enterprises (SMEs)
  • Critical approaches to HRD
  • Practitioner research and learning and teaching
  • Career development and employability

The conference accepts abstracts relating to full papers, working papers, practice-based papers and posters from doctoral students describing original research, studies and/or innovative practices that have not been published elsewhere. We welcome empirical studies, case studies, conceptual/ theoretical papers and practitioner research.

The official language for this international conference is English.

Abstracts in one or more of these categories should be submitted through the single submission point – https://ufhrd2022.exordo.com/

On submission, you will need to provide:

  • the conference programme section (doctoral colloquium or main conference);
  • the conference stream;
  • the author (s) name;
  • the author (s)’ s affiliation (if applicable);
  • a contact email address;
  • your abstract (Please ensure you DO NOT include your name in the abstract or file name to ensure anonymity for review purposes)

The abstract should be no more than 500 words in length. It should include:

  • the type of paper;
  • a title;
  • a brief background/ rationale;
  • the focus of the paper;
  • a summary of the research methods and results or a short description of the practice/ case study as appropriate;
  • Key words

Use APA 7 style


Authors will receive the decision and feedback on their abstract by end of February/beginning of March following the extended CfP. Please note: the doctoral papers will receive feedback on the day of the presentation. Abstracts will be judged according to the following criteria: presentation- structure/ clarity of language; clarity of purpose/ objectives; specified background and rationale supported by literature; appropriate methodology/ method as applicable; and outcome summary.

For all accepted abstracts, full papers/working papers/ e.posters should be submitted by May 11th 2022 and follow the style sheet guidance. The Alan Moon Memorial Prize will be awarded to the best paper.

Authors will be contacted after the Conference with regards to the publication of their paper as part of the Conference Proceedings. E.Posters and ppt presentations of papers will be uploaded to the Conference Website.

References follow APA 7 (Note for three or more authors – you can use et al. when citing within the main text).

To correctly format an APA Table/Figure, follow these rules:

  1. Table/Figure number in bold above the table/figure.
  2. Brief title, in italics and title case, below the table/figure number.
  3. No vertical lines in Table.
  4. Horizontal lines only where necessary for clarity.
  5. Clear, concise labels for column and row headings.
