About Sheffield

Sheffield at sunset as seen from one of the many hills that surround the city centre

Sheffield Hallam University is located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, centrally located, it is about an hours drive away from Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds and Liverpool is just a little further. Both London and Edinburgh are equidistant and easy to access.

Sheffield is one of England’s greenest cities with parts of the Peak District National Park within its boundary. Celebrated country houses like ChatsworthHaddon Hall and Hardwick Hall reflect a long and proud history. It has more trees per person than any other city in Europe.

It may be best known for steel and manufacturing  but it has a growing reputation as the number one destination for outdoor enthusiasts, from climbers to cyclistswalkers to glider pilots.

Culturally there is an eclectic music scene with new bands emerging and Tramlines festival every summer. Sheffield DocFest hosts international films and world-renowned experts, and Off the Shelf literary festival in October showcases literary talent with big names and emerging authors participating. The Crucible and Lyceum theatres host touring plays as well as the World Snooker Championships.

Little Kelham and a Kelham Island offers sustainable housing and the  buzz of a growing community. There are more micro-breweries springing up than anywhere else in England as well as museums, galleries and theatres.  There’s everything from football to ice hockeyrugby to swimming.

It is a city of great opportunity, no matter if you live here, work here or are just visiting. Although the 22nd UFHRD conference is online this year we would be happy to show you around Sheffield if you are able to visit in the future.
