We are pleased to announce that Penny McCarthy was last week awarded the Evelyn Williams Drawing Award at this year’s Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize. Penny, a Reader in Fine Art at SHU, had two of her drawings in the exhibition: DNA in Nature and Photo 51. As part of the award, Penny will receive a £10,000 prize and go on to hold a solo exhibition at the prestigious Hastings Contemporary in 2020-2021, exploring events and archives specific to Hastings itself.
Penny’s graphite drawings typically evolve through a ‘time-heavy and painstaking process of transcription, using archival material and images’.
The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize is the pre-eminent annual open exhibition for drawing in the UK with a commitment to championing excellence and promoting and celebrating the breadth of contemporary drawing practice within the UK.
