Lab4Living – Claire Craig invited to speak at the Create4Dementia hackathon

Claire was invited to speak at the Create-4-Dementia Hackathon an event funded as part of the EPSRC – NIHR HTC Partnership award: Social Computing and Mental Health Research Network. This was Claire’s first experience of being part of such an event which brought together teams of designers, coders, hackers, makers and researchers to share ideas, experiences and concepts to explore the digital design space around dementia and dementia care.

For two days teams worked together in the setting of the Great North Museum Hancock in Newcastle to realize their ideas to offer new ways of thinking about technology in the context of people living with dementia and their families. Students from Sheffield Hallam University studying the MA in Design and Occupational Therapy formed one of the teams at the event. Of the experience Claire said,

‘It was wonderful to have the opportunity to work with our students. Their ideas embodied what it means to be truly person centred and I thought the way they approached this area reflected a breadth of understanding. Just wonderful.’
