Introducing re: Search – educating students about searching

re: Search is a new self-paced tutorial to guide and teach students about searching for information for their university work.

re: Search recognises that students now come to university with a wealth of searching experience.  It emphasises that searching for academic material is different to their previous searching experiences and guides students through the information skills they need to develop for successful completion of assignments.

re: Search can be found on the Library Gateway  ( http://library.shu.ac.uk/ ) and can also be embedded into Blackboard modules together with subject focussed content.   It replaces InfoQuest and can be looked at in bite sized chunks.  It mixes text, video, small quizzes and downloads and can be navigated from the left hand list or the tabs across the top.

This short video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQg4LzYbtqo) provides an overview of re: Search.  At the moment it may still contain some references to our previous Library Gateway and LitSearch but it should still give you a good idea of what re: Search contains and how students might use it.  During the summer we have been updating all the material in re: Search so that by the start of the new semester it will reflect our new Library Gateway and Library Search interface.

If you have any questions about integrating re: Search into your curriculum or Blackboard site please speak with your faculty support team for Learning and Information Services.
