In December we announced that SHUgo, the university’s mobile app, would be released shortly. The release took longer than expected due to unforeseen complications in releasing the app. However, we’re pleased to say that it is now available for use by staff, students and visitors at the University. For everyone who got a new smartphone for Christmas, it’s a great chance to try out a mobile app on it.
The first release of SHUgo allows users to get directions around the University and the city, find out important news quickly, access the library catalogue, and access content and discussions from Blackboard sites. The staff/student directory with contact details has had to be delayed, and should be available in the first update of the app that we release.
Currently SHUgo is only available for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches, and can be downloaded via the app store. However there is a mobile web version available which should work with any web-enabled mobile phone. The next version of the app (we are aiming for mid to late March) should include more features as well as a version for Blackberry and Android phones as well.
